POSITION SUMMARY

The Marathon Petroleum ’s Illinois Re fining Division is seeking qualified applicants to fill full-time Machinist positions at our Robinson, Illinois Refinery. Machinists perform highly skilled mechanical maintenance in and repairs to refinery machinery – pumps, compressors, turbines, valves, gearboxes, etc. This position will be on a Monday – Thursday 10-hour a day schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Repair s , rebuild s , or upgrade s mechanical equipment, including compressors, turbines, valves, and gearboxes per MPC specifications, standards, and drawings.

Maintain s equipment through preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance (vibration analysis, oil analysis, etc.) and condition-based monitoring.

Safely perform s lifting and rigging operations as well as equipment transport utilizing fixed cab cranes, forklifts, flatbed trucks and trailers in accordance with all site requirements .

Troubleshoot s mechanical issues on refinery equipment to minimize downtime, maximize reliability and ensure compliance.

Read s and understand s equipment manuals, procedures, and proper tool selection to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

E nsure s that required documentation of repairs, modifications, and training are completed in a timely and meticulous manner.

Display s dependability through work attendance and availability for callouts or off-shift work as needed

Prioritizes personal, coworker and site safety.

Values teamwork and collaboration to achieve site goals.

Practices safe equipment De-energizing and Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) procedures in accordance with site requirements

MINIMUM ( REQUIRED ) QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent.

Associate’s degree/certification in related field OR Minimum of two years of industrial mechanical experience or other mechanical experience.

Must pass a pre-employment written test and hands-on craft test.

Successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol/medical screenings, and a background check. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also participate in random drug & alcohol screenings

Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a motor vehicle records check

Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or other industrial setting.

Experience in running overhead cranes, forklifts, and safe rigging principles.

Experience in mechanical train alignments and methods including reverse dial indicator and laser alignments

Experience in field balancing rotating equipment.

Experience in safe operation of machine shop equipment including Lathes, Mills, Radial drill press, surface grinders and balance machine

SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements including but not limited to Process Safety Management (PSM), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Petroleum Institute (API), National Electrical Code (NEC), Environmental Standards and other applicable regulations.

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use multiple types of hand tools. Application of precision measuring tools and equipment including micrometers and calipers, indicators, and height gauges.

Hydraulic and pneumatic systems and equipment repair knowledge.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing over 75 feet, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces, wearing proper safety equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus as necessary, use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions

Schedule

Employees work a 10- hour a day Monday-Thursday schedule, with overtime and some weekend work as needed.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Starting Pay rate minimum: $37.53, with rates progressing to a top pay of $52.47. Starting rate will be determined based on review of experience and qualifications

Position eligible for Annual Cash Bonus plan with a target of 7 - 14% of annual eligible earnings.

Benefits include:

401k plan with Company match of 7% on 6% employee contribution.

Cash balance pension plan of 7%, 9%, 11% depending on age and years of service.

Paid vacation (3 weeks), sick benefit (7 days) and holidays (up to 10 paid holidays).
