Job summary

Bombardier Los Angeles is seeking a Machinist to operate mills and lathes, set up machines, and perform a range of machining operations to tight tolerances according to engineering specifications.

Responsibilities include verifying materials and documentation, planning procedures, and maintaining tooling and blueprints. Candidates should be proficient in both manual and CNC machining and able to monitor feeds and tool wear throughout the process.

Qualifications

• Experience in machining operations including boring, drilling, milling, tapping and threading.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Monitor feeds, spindle speeds and tool wear to maintain tolerances.

• Verify quantity and material type are correct and inspection points are stamped.
• Plan machining procedures and set up machines and parts.
• Develop or edit programs for machining equipment as required.

What are your contributions to the team?

• Adhere to General Work Requirements
• Verify quantity and material type are correct and all prior inspection points have been stamped
• Verify all engineering and shop documents have been obtained to perform the necessary work order
• Assist with planning machining procedures and set-up machine and part(s)
• Set-up and/or verify cutting tools per machine requirements
• Perform a variety of machining operations, for example, boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading on raw material to produce machined part(s) to tolerances and dimensions in accordance with engineering specifications
• Monitor feeds, spindle speeds, and tool wear during machining process and make adjustments to equipment, tools, and/or part(s) as required
• Finish machined part(s) using various hand tools
• Verify part is within specified tolerances and dimensions per engineering specifications and make further adjustments as required
• Maintain existing documents, shop aid tools, and blueprints for applicable machines and equipment
• Plan machining procedures and set-up machine and part(s)
• Develop and/or edit programs for machining equipment as required
• Perform a variety of manual and computerized machining operations, for example, turning, boring, drilling, milling, tapping, and threading on raw material to produce machined part(s) to tolerances and dimensions in accordance with engineering specifications
• Maintain existing system of programs, documents, shop aid tools, and blueprints for applicable machines and equipment

How to thrive in this role?

• Ability to deburr, cut, polish, blend, and smooth the surfaces of machined parts using a variety of hand tools, for example, grinders, deburring tools, drill, and files
• Basic knowledge of properties of mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum applicable to part fabrication
• Ability to operate machining equipment including both mills and lathes
• Ability to build shop aid tools to further enhance machining operation for applicable equipment
• Ability to distinguish between a sharp and a dull or chipped tool
• Ability to operate conventional and computerized machining equipment including both mills and lathes
• Ability to design and build shop aid tools to further enhance machining operation for applicable equipment
• Ability to operate and calibrate tool setter per assigned area

Bombardier Salary Wage Range Disclosure: Pay Scale for Non-exempt, Grade 4 from $25.67/hr. to $38.55/hr.
