Job summary

Automation Personnel Services is seeking a skilled Machinist in Mobile, AL to set up and operate manual and CNC equipment for pump components. The role requires reading blueprints, inspecting parts with precision tools, and maintaining tolerances to ensure quality.

This is a full-time, temporary-to-hire position with a pay rate of $30.00 to $34.00 per hour. Benefits include weekly pay, medical/dental/vision, and a 401(k) plan. Shift is Monday–Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3 years of machinist experience in manufacturing, industrial, or pump repair environment preferred.
• Experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, and CNC experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, feeds, and speeds.
• Proficiency using precision measuring instruments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machines, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
• Machine, repair, and modify pump shafts, sleeves, impellers, casings, bearing housings, and other pump components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
• Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
• Maintain close tolerances and ensure all finished products meet quality standards.
• Perform equipment setup, tool changes, and machine adjustments as needed.
• Assist with pump assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting activities when required.
• Identify and resolve machining issues to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance personnel to improve manufacturing processes.

Machinist Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machines, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other machine shop equipment

Machinist Qualifications and Requirements

Preferred Experience

• Industrial pump manufacturing or repair experience
• Experience machining stainless steel, carbon steel, bronze, and exotic alloys
• Familiarity with rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and gearboxes
• Knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical systems

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift
• Ability to work in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
• Ability to safely operate machinery and material handling equipment
