Job summary

Atlas Machine And Supply, a Louisville-based manufacturer, seeks an experienced machinist to set up and operate conventional, NC, and other machining centers to fabricate parts per specs. You will study blueprints, measure tolerances, and adjust controls, while ensuring safety and quality continuously.

Ideal candidates bring 1–3 years of journeyman-level experience, excellent communication, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. Flexible overtime schedule is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• One to three years of experience and/or training as a Journeyman Machinist; or equivalent combination of education and experience (Journeyman Certification is a preferred).
• Must possess excellent communication and people skills.
• Requires ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Flexibility in the work schedule to meet overtime requirements.
• Understanding blueprints and designs from sketches.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and NC machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts to customer specifications.
• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece.
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials.
• Calculates and sets controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance work; adjust as needed.
• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed data.
• Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly; verifies dimensions and alignment.
• Installs machined replacement parts and tests unit functionality.
• Confers with engineers and production personnel to resolve problems.
• Performs work safely and complies with regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

We are looking for experienced machinists to join our team and help us grow in Louisville, KY. This position will set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts to customer specifications.

• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence, of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, horizontal mills, portable equipment, and vertical turret lathes.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of -tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly including teardown repairs.
• Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
• Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operations of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
• Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch part or product to be fabricated.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
• Performs work safely and meets regulatory compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
