• Ensures safety operating procedures are followed throughout projects.
• May communicate with technicians regarding machine maintenance or failures.
• Typically requires accreditation from a technical school or skilled trades program and 4 to 6 years of experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Operates machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, or special purpose equipment according to production specifications and needs.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES

• Verifies conformance of machined work to specifications using measuring instruments such as; calipers, micrometers, and fixed or telescoping gauges.
• Reads and interprets machining instructions, job orders, and blueprints to determine dimensional specifications, sequences of operations, setups, and tooling requirements.
• Selects and sets cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties.
• Ensures safety operating procedures are followed throughout projects.
• May communicate with technicians relating to machine maintenance or failures.
• May communicate with senior management on special projects.
• Utilizes and interprets specifications specific to project needs.
• Experience and Education: Performs work under direct supervision.
• Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
• Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter.
• Typically requires accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 4 to 6 years of experience.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Completion of the machinist development program or prior Machining experience
