Job summary

STS Aerospace in Laconia, NH seeks a machinist to set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and NC machines to fabricate parts. You will study blueprints, measure and mark dimensions, choose tooling, adjust controls, inspect first articles, and collaborate with engineers to resolve machining problems.

Responsibilities include selecting tooling, securing fixtures, monitoring tool wear, and ensuring conformance to specifications while maintaining a safe, efficient workflow on the shop

Qualifications

• Blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications used to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Ability to measure, mark, and scribes dimensions on materials.
• Operate holding fixtures, cutting tools, and machine controls for NC machines.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, grinders and conventional machines.
• Study blueprints and specifications to determine setup requirements and tolerances.
• Measure and mark dimensions on workpieces for accuracy and reference points.
• Verify finished parts meet specifications through first piece inspections.

Description

Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Supervisor, this position involves the set-up and operation of conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and with reasonable accommodation when necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
• Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining
• Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as CNC mills, CNC lathes, and grinders
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
• Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
• Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
• Completes first piece inspections
• Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Registrations

Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
