Job summary

Puffer-Sweiven is seeking an experienced machinist to assemble, repair, and fabricate parts by operating mechanical equipment in a technical shop. The role requires reading blueprints and precise measurement with various tools to ensure parts meet specifications.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of experience in manual machining, ability to operate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and related equipment, and the discipline to maintain machines and safety standards on site in Texas.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience.
  • Ability to operate manual machines such as lathes, radial and standard drill presses, VTLs, horizontal boring mills and knee mills.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, repairs and fabricates replacement and new parts by operating mechanical equipment.
  • Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units.
  • Installs repaired part into equipment and operates equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and maintains machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees as required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assembles, repairs and fabricates replacement and new parts by operating mechanical equipment.
  • Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units.
  • Installs repaired part into equipment and operates equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Operates metalworking machine tools, such as conventional lathe, milling machine, broaching shaper,bench drill machine , radial drill machine or grinder to machine parts to specifications.
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.
  • Cut raw material on a horizontal bandsaw as needed
  • Debur production & finished parts.
  • Takes care of routine preventative maintenance of machines
  • Maintain and secure work tools.
  • Cleans, lubricates, and maintains machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use.
  • Perform back-up for assembly shop.
  • Perform back-up for warehouse.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees as required.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least 5+ years of experience.
  • Must be able to operate manual machines such as lathes, radial and standard drill presses, VTL’s, horizontal boring mills and knee mills to their full capability without direct involvement from supervisor or other machinists.
Competencies
  • Must be able to handle & read job / machine specific measuring tools to inspect & maintain the quality work by using measuring tools , such as various size/types of plug /ring gauges, ID/OD/Depth Micrometer ,Dial indicators , thread gauges, vernier caliper, height gauges etc.. in Metric or Imperial standard.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics & instruments
  • Must be capable of machining ACME and Screw Pitch threads
  • Must be able to read technical / CAD drawings and manufacture parts consistent with the information provided.
  • Must be able to operate pallet jacks, fork lift & over head crane.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work tasks

  • Ability to use computer applications, barcode scanner, adding machine, telephone.
