Job summary

MISTRAS Group is seeking motivated machinists for 1st shift on weekdays. Candidates should have strong CNC lathes/VTL experience and be able to handle cutting of super alloys, with a focus on quality and safety in a heavy manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities include interpreting prints, programming basics, and maintaining documentation of changes while meeting production schedules. Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years machining experience or relatable equipment experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and operation sheets.
  • Able to understand CNC programs on machines.
  • Knowledge of inspection equipment and techniques.
  • Good shop math and understanding of geometric tolerances.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Punctual and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret part drawings and basic CNC programs.
  • Verify parts and document tool changes; maintain safe work area.
  • Machine parts to specifications and delivery schedules.
  • Use measuring tools to inspect parts and document quality checks.
  • Understand speeds/feeds, coolant, depth and cutting angles.
  • Monitor machines and adjust tools, inserts and offsets.
  • Suggest improvements; work with team to resolve machining issues.

Job description

MISTRAS a rapidly expanding aerospace and precision machining company is looking for highly motivated, machinists looking for challenging parts, materials, and opportunities for personal growth.

Weekday, 1st Shift

Skills And Experience
  • Ability to learn new processes, techniques, equipment, and technology.
  • Minimum 5-year experience preferred operating CNC lathes, VTL's or a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Should be able to run forklift, overhead crane and lifting devices to safely load and unload parts from machines, fixtures, and work areas.
  • Should be used to working in a production environment with quick change over with a mix of low and high-volume part runs.
  • Cutting super alloys like Titanium, Inconel and René and large forgings is preferred
Machining
  • Accurately interpret part drawings, basic CNC programs and work instructions.
  • Verify parts, document equipment changes, and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Machine parts to specifications and delivery schedules.
  • Use measuring tools/gages to inspect and document quality checks during machining operations to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Basic understanding of metal cutting speeds/feeds/coolant flow/depth and angle of cuts.
  • Monitor machines and adjust cutting tools, inserts, and offsets.
  • Examine existing part programs and recommend improvements.
  • Use basic math to assist in all aspects of the job.
  • Work with management, programmers, and shop personnel to resolve machining issues, propose process improvements, uphold, and participate in company quality and safety programs, perform duties as assigned.

  • 5+ years machining experience preferred or relatable equipment experience
  • Must want to learn and share knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret prints and operation sheets.
  • Able to understand programs on CNC machines preferred
  • Knowledge of typical inspection equipment and techniques
  • Good understanding of shop math. & basic understanding of geometric tolerances
  • Understanding basic quality process
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for one or more hours at a time
  • Regular attendance and reporting to work on time
