Job description

StoneAge is the global leader in designing and manufacturing high-pressure waterblast tooling and automated, IoT-enabled/robotic equipment, based in Durango, CO., with five subsidiaries in four countries. This position is responsible for the machining required by work orders, including set up, production, and inspection of all machining assigned by the Shop Supervisor. A Machinist must follow all safety guidelines to produce parts that meet or exceed StoneAge and customer specifications. Continuous improvement in quality, processes, efficiency, and personal growth is expected. The Machinist is also expected to lead by example.

This position reports to the Shop Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complete assigned work orders efficiently while maintaining quality.
  • Conduct first article inspections on all orders and aim to reject fewer than 4 parts annually.
  • Assist Machinist I with inspections as needed.
  • Participate in training of Machinist I and II.
  • Perform daily maintenance and keep work area organized.
  • Accurately record time, quantity, and scrap in EPICOR.
  • Engage actively in team meetings and shop projects.
  • Help evaluate team members, research new processes and tooling, and support machine operation to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Fill in for the Lead Machinist and coordinate workflow priorities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers and technicians for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and across departments.
  • Report time off and shop issues to the Shop Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • Lead with an “Own-it” mentality.
  • Set up CNC machinery for efficiency and quality, and assist others with setups.
  • Program and machine complex parts using MasterCam and conversational software, supporting others’ programming needs.
  • Proficient in manual mills, lathes, band saws, benders, and engravers.
  • Diagnose machine malfunctions and determine adjustments or repairs.
  • Assist apprentices with tooling choices and tooling sharpening.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
  • Know how to use and care for measuring tools.

  • Lift heavy loads with proper techniques.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Extended hours may be necessary.
