Job summary

KBR in Maryland invites a skilled Machinist to join our on-site shop in Columbia. You will set up and operate CNC Vertical Machining Centers and manual equipment to manufacture components from CAD drawings.

You will work with metals and plastics, interpret blueprints and GD&T, and write Mastercam programs to define tool paths and cutting parameters. Prior experience with Hass VF milling and Hass TL lathes is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain interim secret clearance to start and maintain.
• Experienced with Hass VF series milling machines.
• Experienced with Hass TL lathes.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Vertical Machining Centers using setup sheets and load programs.
• Interpret blueprints, GD&T specifications, and engineering drawings to produce precision parts.
• Works from prints, complex drawings, sketches, or samples to plan sequential machine operations.
• Work with a variety of metals and materials with complex machining characteristics.
• Operate hand and power tools to perform fabrication processes (band saws, drill presses, shears, punches).
• Write Mastercam programs to develop numerical code and set up machines.
• May work independently from drawings to develop and machine components.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
• Support prototype development and low-volume production runs.

Description

The Machinist shall setup/operate CNC Vertical Machining Centers and manual shop equipment to manufacture mechanical prototypes and machine components from engineering CAD drawings and sketches. The machinist shall work in various materials to include metal, wood, plastics, nylon, composites, and others. The Machinist must work with minimum supervision

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC Vertical Machining Centers by utilizing set up sheets, tooling lists, and load programs.
• Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T specifications, and engineering drawings to produce precision parts.
• Works from prints, complex drawings, sketches, or samples to accomplish layout and plan for sequential machine operations.
• Works with a variety of metals and materials that have complex machining characteristics.
• Operates various hand and power tools to perform fabrication processes to include band saws, drill presses, mechanical shears, and punches.
• Write programs using Mastercam from blueprints and drawings to develop numerical code to operate CNC machinery assigning tool paths, feed rates and other cutting parameters. Import numerical code to machines and perform setup and operation function to machine components.
• May work independently from drawings, applying technical knowledge to develop and machine components.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
• Support prototype development and low-volume production runs.

Required Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain an interim secret clearance to start and maintain once approved
• Experienced in operating Hass VF series milling machines
• Experienced in operating Hass TL lathes

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in machining or manufacturing technology.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam).
• Prior experience in aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing environments.

Basic Compensation

$60,000 - $75,000 USD annually

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, and in consideration of internal parity
