Job summary

FALL CREEK FARM & NURSERY in Chattanooga, TN is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up and operate machining centers to manufacture metal parts from raw stock. You will interpret drawings, select tools, load programs, and machine parts to tight tolerances in a team-based environment.

The role requires reading blueprints, adjusting feeds and speeds, and performing inspections to maintain quality standards. Physical work includes standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and following safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Reads and interprets complex drawings and process sheets.
  • Performs diverse milling/drilling operations on CNC centers.
  • Measures parts to spec using gauges and inspection tools.
  • Selects and changes cutting tools per setup instructions.
  • Alerts supervisor to discrepancies.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of workspace.

Responsibilities

This position requires a person to perform set ups and operate CNC equipment to manufacture metal parts from raw material in a team based environment. Plans and performs a variety of machine operations utilizing numerical control machining centers to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interprets complicated drawings, program sheets, instructions, and process sheets to determine work to be done.
  • Read and understand blue prints.
  • Performs diversified operations on numerical control machining centers.
  • Performs a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close and interrelated tolerances.
  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine machining sequence and dimensions of finished workpiece.
  • Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures workpiece in fixture according to setup instructions.
  • Selects and installs cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine.
  • Loads control media, such as disk, tape, or punch card, in machine control console or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
  • Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Changes cutting tools and location of workpiece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Performs a variety of inspection and gaging operations to insure maintenance of quality standards and specifications.
  • Measures workpiece for conformance to specifications.
  • Notifies supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Utilizes override control to correct conditions that are out of tolerance or operating unusually.
  • Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
  • Machines materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
  • Performs machine maintenance.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
