Job summary

OPT Machine Vision is seeking a motivated Machine Vision Application & Sales Engineer to join our North America team in Cupertino, CA. You will bridge customer applications with OPT’s vision solutions, solving real-world inspection and automation challenges.

You will work with customers, sales, and engineering to evaluate applications, run feasibility tests, develop vision solutions, and support project deployment. Training is provided to build expertise in cutting-edge vision technologies.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
  • 0–3 years of engineering, automation, or machine vision experience.
  • Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Basic programming in Python, C++, or MATLAB preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer applications and identify machine vision solutions.
  • Support sales with technical feasibility, demonstrations, and proposals.
  • Design vision systems using lighting, optics, cameras, and software.
  • Assist during installation, startup, and customer training sessions.
  • Provide remote and on‑site troubleshooting and optimization.

Job description

OPT Machine Vision is seeking a motivated and technically curious Machine Vision Application & Sales Engineer to join our growing North America team.

In this role, you will serve as the bridge between customer applications and OPT’s machine vision solutions, helping customers solve real-world inspection and automation challenges.

You will work closely with customers, sales teams, and engineering teams to evaluate applications, conduct feasibility testing, develop vision solutions, and support successful project implementation.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy solving technical problems, working directly with customers, and learning cutting-edge technologies in machine vision and industrial automation.

Prior machine vision experience is not required. Candidates with strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity, and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. Comprehensive product and application training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Application Analysis
  • Work directly with customers to understand inspection requirements, manufacturing processes, and automation objectives.
  • Analyze customer applications and identify potential machine vision solutions.
  • Gather application information including part characteristics, defect requirements, throughput, environmental conditions, and system constraints.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility and assist customers in determining the most effective inspection strategy.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop machine vision solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Design vision systems utilizing lighting, optics, cameras, controllers, software, and related accessories.
  • Conduct laboratory testing, proof-of-concept evaluations, and feasibility studies.
  • Prepare technical reports, application studies, and solution recommendations.
  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and customer training sessions.
Project Support & Customer Success
  • Support customers during system installation, startup, and implementation.
  • Provide remote and on-site technical troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Assist customers and system integrators with product selection, setup, and optimization.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through responsive technical support and follow-up.
Business Development Support
  • Participate in trade shows, seminars, webinars, and customer visits.
  • Support sales activities by identifying new opportunities and promoting OPT technologies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor products, and emerging machine vision technologies.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Robotics, or a related technical field.
Experience
  • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • 0–3 years of experience in engineering, automation, manufacturing, machine vision, robotics, technical support, or related fields.
  • Internship, laboratory, research, senior design, or project experience related to imaging, automation, robotics, manufacturing, or industrial systems is highly valued.
Technical Skills
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic understanding of machine vision, image processing, industrial automation, or manufacturing systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industrial cameras, lighting, optics, sensors, PLCs, robotics, or control systems is a plus.
  • Basic programming knowledge in Python, C++, MATLAB, or other technical languages is beneficial.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them in practical customer applications.
Soft Skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a proactive and solution-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting capabilities.

Language Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Mandarin Chinese proficiency is highly preferred but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, sales teams, and global engineering teams across different regions and cultures.
Work Authorization
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Travel Requirements
  • Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally for customer visits, demonstrations, training, trade shows, and industry events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to machine vision, industrial automation, robotics, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with PLCs, sensors, industrial communication protocols, or vision software.
  • Hands-on experience through internships, engineering projects, research activities, or technical competitions.
  • Interest in customer-facing technical roles and solution-based selling.
