Job summary

Hitachi Energy in the United States is seeking a Team Leader for the 2nd shift to organize, assign and oversee production, ensuring schedules are met and quality products are manufactured safely.

You will drive continuous improvement with lean tools (5S, waste elimination), lead a multi-skilled team, and report results on the tier two accountability board while developing team members.

Qualifications

  • High school equivalence or higher education.
  • Machining 1 certification required.
  • Understanding lean manufacturing, waste elimination, problem-solving & 5S.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Basic TPM understanding is beneficial; ability to operate and maintain equipment is advantageous.
  • Experience with quality control gauges/tools, inventory systems, and SPC where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee production; assign tasks; meet production schedules.
  • Lead safety meetings and ensure PPE use and inspections.
  • Report using tier two accountability board and track performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement using lean tools (5S, waste elimination).
  • Allocate shift staffing based on production plan and training matrix.
  • Ensure SOPs are followed and quality issues are addressed.
  • Maintain equipment through daily checks and maintenance.
  • Develop team members through standard and specialized training.
  • Maintain inventory control and MRO usage; audit components.
  • Lead 5S execution and develop 5S improvement plans.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Organizes & holds safety meetings to carry out safety education, risk assessments, accident investigations & other related safety activities.
  • Coaches team members on adherence to safety procedures, including correct use of PPE, daily safety checks and workplace inspections.
  • Identifies, coordinates and resolves safety issues and facilitates Behavior-Based Safety
  • Assists EHS in drafting of Safety & Prevention procedures.
Quality Management
  • Ensures team members adhere to standard operation procedures.
  • Analyzes the cause of quality issues & formulates suitable action plans, including containment and preventative corrective actions.
  • Assists in improving Poka-Yoke and quality assurance documentation.
Operations Management
  • Allocates shift's team members according to the production plan, training matrix, and generate report and update tier two accountability board
  • Continuously tracks team performance and resolves any production abnormalities
  • Effectively communicates with all team members and the next shift Team Leader any and all issues/concerns resulting from your shift's operations.
  • Provides timely and effective feedback to help Team Members to strengthen specific skills needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
  • Escalates issues and/or successes of the machine shop to the operation manager as necessary.
  • Resolves problems during the launch period of new products & improve the production
Materials Management
  • Implements the cyclical & monthly audit of the components in the machine shop
  • Analyzes all inventory discrepancy & develops improvement action plans.
  • Measures and optimizes the usage of MRO in the machine shop.
Equipment Management
  • Organizes team members to perform daily checks and maintenance on their production equipment, fixtures & gauges.
  • Assists in the improvement of tooling and modification of equipment.
  • Assists in the audit of equipment & tooling for use in new products.
5S Management
  • Organizes & leads the team's execution of the 5S plans, including housekeeping, making problems visible and standardizing activity for all Team Members.
  • Develops the team's 5S improvement plan.
  • Supports other Team Leaders' 5S planning & development.
Continuous Improvement
  • Implements the machine shop’s continuous improvement plan.
  • Leads the implementation of the machine shop continuous improvement plan.
  • Initiates, develops, leads and implements the continuous improvement plans.
Employee Development
  • Provides standard & specialized training for new, transferred replacement or returned team members
  • Trains & develops multi-skilled Team Members.
  • Trains & develops backup per each machine
Required Skills / Qualifications
  • High school equivalent or higher education.
  • Machining 1 certification required
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, waste elimination, problem-solving & 5S
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Able to read, write, and perform basic math skills (includes basic algebra, fractions, geometry).
  • Must have the ability to carry out instructions, provided in written, oral or diagram
  • Basic understanding of TPM principles would be beneficial. Ability to operate, troubleshoot, make minor adjustments and/or perform preventive maintenance on equipment would be a benefit
  • Experience in effective use of quality control gauges/equipment, inventory systems, blueprint interpretation, computer applications, and SPC charting where applicable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product and process specifications.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
  • Willing to work day and night shift.
  • This is a working team lead position. Running machine equipment will be required.
