Job summary

Enpro's Technetics division seeks a Machine Shop Manager to lead a production-focused team, drive lean initiatives, and ensure high-quality, cost-efficient output.

You will mentor staff, coordinate with Supply Chain and Production Leads, and develop pricing for machined components while maintaining strict quality metrics and continuous improvement across the shop.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC program efficiency and GD&T.
  • Formal manufacturing training or certification is preferred.
  • Experience in machine shops and reading blueprints.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with ERP and business systems.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and related software.
  • Lean manufacturing experience and problem-solving skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develops quotes and pricing for machined components with Supply Chain and Production Leads.
  • Schedules and staffs the department to meet delivery commitments.
  • Establishes quality and manufacturing metrics (yield, efficiency).
  • Identifies training needs and coordinates department training.
  • Leads cost reduction and yield improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors performance to meet financial metrics and minimize variances.
  • Supports early NPI processes including floor space, staffing, and training.
  • Develops cost models for make/buy decisions and audits documents.
  • Supports shop in engineering capacity, troubleshooting, and spindle efficiency.
  • Understands CNC program efficiencies.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Machine Shop Manager oversees a team within the department and holds primary responsibility to ensure the efficient, timely, and cost-effective production of high-quality products. This role fosters a culture of employee empowerment, collaboration, and continuous improvement by applying lean manufacturing principles, promoting quality standards, and supporting personal and professional development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop quote proposalpricing for all machined components. Coordinates with the Supply Chain group and Production Leads.
  • Works with the department planner for scheduling and staffing the department to ensure customer delivery schedules are met.
  • Ensures quality and manufacturing metrics are established (yield & efficiencies).
  • Identifies training needs and coordinates training for the department; in an organized and strategic fashion assuring flexibility and maintaining a balanced and smooth product flow.
  • Leads the process of continuous improvement by means of identifying cost reduction and yield improvement opportunities.
  • Continually monitors employee and departmental performance to ensure financial metrics are met (optimize efficiency and minimize variances/discrepancies).
  • Engages in the early stages of the NPI process for a smooth transition to production; including floor space requirements, staffing, and training.
  • Delegates tasks and sets deadlines.
  • Works cross functionally to develop cost models for new products to support make/buy decisions.
  • Audit job documentation throughout the shift to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Supports the shop in an engineering capacity, trouble shooting and spindle efficiency.
  • Understand CNC program efficiencies
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and maintain a team environment through safety, excellence and respect.
  • Assist process and equipment improvements
  • Make recommendations regarding employee status (hire, termination, transfer)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager
  • Works as Department Engineer
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Years of Experience
  • Understanding of CNC program efficiency
  • Formal training and/or certification in related manufacturing area highly preferred.
  • Actual on-the-job experience in a machine shop is required.
  • Must be able to read measuring instruments required to check product quality and blueprints with an understanding of GD&T.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as a leader
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with business systems (ERP).
  • Computer literate must be familiar with computer systems including, but not limited to, MS Office programs as well as business operating systems.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment with technical understanding preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, facilitation and training skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment across all disciplines.
  • Effective written and communication skills.
  • Experience with lean principles, project management, variances, and statistics preferred
  • Must be analytical and problem-solving
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle and feel, as well as reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
