Position Summary
Set up and operate manual milling machines and turret lathes to manufacture precision components in accordance with blueprints, work instructions, and established quality standards. This position performs machine setups, selects appropriate tooling and machining parameters, completes first-piece and in-process inspections, and makes necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet print specifications.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Bridgeport milling machines and turret lathes in accordance with blueprints, shop orders, and routing instructions.
- Select the appropriate material, tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds for each machining operation.
- Perform tool offsets and make machine adjustments as necessary to maintain specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, shop orders, and related manufacturing documentation.
- Complete first-piece and in-process inspections to verify that components conform to blueprint requirements.
- Inspect parts using dial calipers, micrometers, drop indicators, optical comparators, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Record and maintain required statistical process control data and other production documentation.
- Identify dimensional or quality issues and make appropriate machine or tooling adjustments.
- Move completed parts to the next operation in accordance with established routing procedures.
- Assist less-experienced operators with machine setups and operating procedures, as directed.
- Maintain equipment and the surrounding work area in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Follow all applicable quality, safety, and manufacturing procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with general upkeep of the department and equipment.
- Perform secondary manufacturing operations, including riveting, collar assembly, sleeving, and soldering, as needed.
- Operate CNC equipment when trained and assigned.
