Job summary

MAHLE is seeking a Multicraft Technician in Morristown, TN to repair and maintain machinery and electrical equipment across engines, motors, conveyor systems and control systems. The role involves diagnosing malfunctions, performing preventative maintenance and supporting modification projects with the Electrical Engineer.

Preference for candidates with two-year degrees in electronic engineering technology and industrial maintenance knowledge.

Qualifications

• Two year degree focused on electronic engineering technology and industrial automation.
• Knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC machine controls, robotics, welding, and fabrication techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and test motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment.
• Diagnose causes of electrical or mechanical malfunction and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of Electrical Engineer.
• Develop wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specs for system modifications or expansion.

Your Contribution

As a Multicraft Technician reporting to the Area Supervisor, you will be responsible for repairs and maintaining machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, control systems and equipment, circuitry, field wiring, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

Your Experience & Qualifications

• Assemble and test motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment and components.
• Diagnose cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
• Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of Electrical Engineer.
• Develop wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion, and direct personnel performing routine installation and maintenance duties.
• Plan and record periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment which fails to meet acceptable operating standards.
• Troubleshoot and repair controls, automation components, sensors, motors, control drives, PLC programs, etc.
• Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
• Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
• Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
• Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
• Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
• Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.
• Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
• Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
• Repairs and maintains mechanical and hydraulic components of production machines and equipment such as metal fabricating machine tools, material handling system, and automated lubrication system by performing the following duties.
• Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to diagnose causes of malfunctions.
• Inspects, measures, and tests parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
• Removes and replaces worn or defective parts of mechanical systems.
• Realigns and adjusts components such as spindles and clutches.
• Diagnoses pneumatic and hydraulic components issues, and repairs or installs new components and fabricates or modifies components of these systems.
• Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
• Repairs broken parts.
• Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
• Assists Mechanical Engineer to modify sketches or computer generated designs of machine components such as hydraulic system and drive mechanism.

Education and/or Experience / Prerequisites

Two year Associate's Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology with emphasis on industrial automation or Associate's Degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school majoring in Industrial Maintenance Technology, MAHLE Electronic Theory Exam and/or a standard mechanical aptitude test is required.

Applicant should be knowledgeable in the areas of industrial hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC machine controls, robotics, blue print interpretation, precision measurement techniques, welding, and fabrication techniques.
