Job summary

Hörmann North America seeks a reliable Machine Operator II to set up and run presses, un-coilers, roll-formers and related equipment to produce garage door sections. You will ensure quality, store finished parts, and prepare rejects for return to vendors.

You must lift up to 50 lbs, hold forklift and crane certifications, and read blueprints. The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and adherence to 6S standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED or equivalent with at least three years of progressive manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication experience.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts as needed to meet production goals.
  • Ability to read, interpret, produce, and measure products to prints/drawings and work instruction specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machine equipment (presses, un-coilers, roll-formers) to produce garage door sections and components.
  • Maintain quality and storage of products; prepare rejected materials for return to vendors.
  • Promote safe, clean work environment and maintain 6S standards at all times.
  • Read and interpret prints/drawings; ensure products meet specifications.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment; assist in training of fellow employees.

Job description

Machine Operator ll will be responsible for setting up and running specialized machine equipment (such as presses, un-coilers, roll-formers, and any other pieces of equipment as deemed necessary by management) to produce various designs and sizes of garage door sections and other garage door components. The candidate will also be accountable for the overall quality and storage of garage door sections and other garage door components, the preparing of rejected material(s) for return to vendor(s) and the housekeeping of the machinery and general work area(s).

Candidate will possess the ability to use a tape measure, micrometer, caliper, "feeler" gauge, and other mechanical tools as used in this position. Candidate will be required to use a computer, be certified to drive a forklift truck, certified to operate overhead cranes and operate a pallet jack, able to lift, carry, and set up rollers and dies onto the press, un-coiler, and roll-former weighing up to 50 pounds. Candidate must be able to carry out any additional assignments as instructed by the area supervisor and/or management team.

Hours

4 pm to 2:30 AM

Major Responsibilities/Activities
  • Conduct activities by adhering to established procedures and approved processes.
  • Operate relevant production equipment or tools.
  • Fulfill production orders, meet inventory requirements, and produce at the prescribed production rate(s).
  • Capacity to develop knowledge of manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment and be able to apply this knowledge to the completion of work as assigned.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, produce, and measure products to prints/drawings and work instruction specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Must become familiar with the product’s construction and application.
  • Must promote and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Must have an understanding of S and maintain 6S standards at all time.
  • Assist in quality training of fellow employees.
  • Basic trouble shooting for all machinery.
  • Work overtime as needed, even on a short notice to meet customer demands.
  • Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Have a High School diploma, GED or equivalent with at least three years of progressive manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication experience.
  • Have the flexibility to work on different shifts, when required, to meet production or project goals.
Essential Mental Functions
  • Must be able to maintain focus of tasks at hand with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to follow an established routine and be predisposed to high level of interaction in a team environment.
  • Successful candidates must be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently without continuous supervision.
  • Work with an understanding that they are a member of a team where success for one is measured by success for all.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and easily adapt to changing situations.
Essential Physical Functions
  • Be able to safely lift or move at least 50 lbs.
  • Be able to drive a forklift (certification required) and use a pallet jack.
  • Be able to operate overhead cranes (certification required) to lift up to 300 lbs. and over 5,000 lbs. of metal coils and roll-forming tables.
  • Capable of pushing, pulling, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Be able to work in cold or hot working conditions.
Equipment Used

Tools and equipment along with specialized training if needed will be provided as required.
