STATEMENT OF JOB:
The SS Welder Operator reports to the Stainless Steel (SS) Unit Production Supervisor. Using a TIG-welding process (by machine), this person welds stainless steel cylinders and will be trained to perform hand-weld repairs. In addition to operating welding equipment, the person assists with the responsibilities of a Machine Operator I. The company reserves the right to rotate employees to other departments or work assignments within the organization as needed based on skill set and production needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have reading, writing, and basic math skills.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Previous experience as a Machine Operator I within Stainless Steel.
- Welding experience, specifically TIG welding, demonstrated by passing a hands-on competency test; vocational school training is a plus.
DUTIES:
- Operate complex machinery used in production, including adjusting and TIG welding stainless steel shells and components based on prints.
- Perform semi-complex machine setups and load components for welding.
- Ensure machines operate at required capacity and meet production standards.
- Monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot, and resolve issues to maintain efficiency.
- Verify machine settings and detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance production; monitor controls such as temperature, cycle time, amps, and volts.
- Recognize process upsets and notify the appropriate personnel.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining performance scorecards and Gemba Boards.
- Support maintenance with basic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Perform preventive maintenance and notify maintenance personnel of malfunctions.
- Visually inspect welds to ensure compliance with blueprints, codes, and quality standards.
- Support peer training and development.
- Perform assembly, packaging, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned.
