The Machine Operator is responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of machine operations, as well as leading machine crews indirectly. The primary goal is to operate a coffee packaging machine safely. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Principal Job Duties
- Operate production equipment safely and efficiently to meet production and waste goals.
- Complete all required documentation and checklists related to equipment operation, report malfunctions to supervisor and maintenance.
- Interpret work orders and instructions accurately to ensure proper materials and specifications are followed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate operational issues.
- Ensure adequate gas-off time for coffee.
- Complete changeover sheets, notify line support for changeovers, and request necessary materials like film, filters, and boxes.
- Use computer systems to access coffee bins and enter item information for labeling.
- Program the packaging machine based on manufacturing specifications.
- Adjust packaging equipment for appropriate case sizes and coffee amounts without stopping production.
- Manage packaging by closing, labeling, and tape-sealing boxes.
- Perform visual, weight, and seal inspections during operation.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming products.
- Move and stack boxes onto pallets correctly.
- Complete pallet tickets with relevant information.
- Record downtime and its reasons.
- Submit maintenance work requests as needed.
- Clean equipment and work area regularly to prevent dust accumulation.
- Check packaging machines and complete changeover sheets to ensure correctness.
- Collect and submit samples for quality assurance.
- Follow safety protocols, wear PPE, maintain cleanliness, and contribute to safety goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
