The Machine Operator is responsible for ensuring the overall quality and efficiency of the machine, indirectly leading machine crews. The primary goal is to operate coffee packaging machines safely. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Principal Job Duties
- Operate production equipment safely and efficiently to meet production and waste goals.
- Complete all required documentation and checklists related to equipment operation; report malfunctions to supervisor and maintenance.
- Interpret work orders and instructions to ensure proper materials and specifications are followed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate operation issues.
- Ensure adequate gas-off time for coffee.
- Complete changeover sheets, notify line support for changeovers, and request necessary materials.
- Use computer systems to manage coffee bins and print labels based on manufacturing specifications.
- Program packaging machines for specific items using touch screens.
- Adjust packaging equipment for case size and coffee amount without stopping production.
- Manage packaging processes, including boxing, labeling, and tape sealing.
- Perform visual, weight, and seal inspections during operation.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming goods.
- Move and stack boxes onto pallets appropriately.
- Complete pallet tickets with relevant information.
- Record downtime and reasons during shifts.
- Submit maintenance requests when needed.
- Clean machines and work areas regularly to prevent dust accumulation.
- Check packaging machines and complete changeover sheets to ensure correctness.
- Collect and submit samples for quality assurance.
- Follow all safety and quality protocols, including PPE usage and maintaining a clean work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
