Position Summary: The Machine Operator is responsible for the operation
of fabricating machines such as saws, shears, rolls, and brakes that
cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures in the
manufacturing of tank systems.
Machine Operator Duties And Responsibilities
- Reads job specifications and/or blueprints to determine machine
adjustments and material requirements (part layout).
- Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule
or template.
- Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or
blade.
- Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine.
- Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine
malfunction.
- Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine
operation.
- Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from work piece.
- Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and
follows prescribed safety procedures.
- Knowledge of MOP and SWI.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Machine Operator Skills And Specifications
- Ability to read and comprehend blue prints and/or sketches.
- Ability to use simple math to perform basic calculations.
- Knowledge and ability to use common measuring instruments and hand
tools such as tape measure, level, or square.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short
correspondence, and memos.
- Solid problem-solving skills.
- Ability to contribute and work in a team environment.
- Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness to ensure first
quality of work.
- Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with
people in the course of work.
- Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight
deadlines.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift.
Machine Operator Education And Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Machine Operator Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of the Machine Operator position, job, the
employee is continually required to stand; walk; use hands to finger,
handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms;
balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee is occasionally required
to crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally
lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by
the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Machine Operator Work Environment
While performing the duties of the Machine Operator position, the
employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne
particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work
environment is usually loud.
