Job summary

Central Wire is seeking a Machine Operator HRD to safely set up, operate, and monitor HRD production equipment. The role requires reading work orders, adjusting settings, and ensuring quality, while maintaining a clean, safe work area.

Job Title: Machine Operator HRD

Position Overview: The HRD Machine Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining HRD production equipment to meet quality, productivity, and efficiency standards. This role includes reading work orders and product specifications, adjusting machine settings, monitoring wire quality throughout processing, documenting production activity and downtime, and following all safety, housekeeping, and quality procedures. The operator is expected to work independently, communicate equipment or quality concerns promptly, and support continuous improvement within the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read work orders and bills of materials to determine product specifications and production requirements.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor HRD machinery, including speed, temperature, coating level, wire diameter, and surface quality.
  • Adjust machinery as needed, including changing dies, stringing payoff, point welding, grinding material, and measuring wire diameter between draws.
  • Inspect material during processing using appropriate measuring tools, including tape measure, micrometer, and tensile test machine, to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Cut samples for quality control and obtain all required approvals before releasing or continuing production as applicable.
  • Place material on hold and stop production when nonconforming wire is found; request initiation of internal corrective action when necessary.
  • Record production activity, downtime, quality checks, and other required documentation; complete and submit work orders to the supervisor.
  • Report machinery issues, safety concerns, and quality concerns to the supervisor or maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Use forklifts, cranes, and hand carts to load, unload, and move material safely to and from machines.
  • Label packages and ensure finished or in-process material is properly identified.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following all safety, housekeeping, and daily inspection requirements.
  • Read and follow SDS information to become familiar with chemicals used in the department.
  • Train new operators and assist other operators or production leadership as needed.
  • Complete all assigned training, including monthly health and safety sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Duties:

  • Work overtime as required.
  • Assist production manager and other operators as necessary
  • Ability to communicate – verbal and written.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions with accuracy.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
