Job description

Summary

Operates specialized machines such as door router, stair router, welder, plate cutter, table saws, planer jointer, and component cutter to perform operations like routing, boring, rip sawing, cross cutting, beveling, grooving, and mitering of lumber or wood stock.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Selects and sets proper machine control settings and parts, such as placing the correct disk on saw, setting guides, etc., according to work order and specifications.
  • Selects material to be machined, including beams, headers, studs, fire blocking, plates, blocks, doors, lumber.
  • Starts machine, places wood stock on table against guides, and pushes stock for cutting.
  • Measures cut stock with rulers, calipers, or squares to verify dimensions or sets machine for automated cuts.
  • Operates machine to cut, route, bore, etc., wood stock or products according to specifications.
  • Labels cut stock or products with correct numbers and/or letters.
  • Removes finished stock and places on job carts for shipment or further processing.
  • Maintains production count by marking completed work and delivering paperwork to the supervisor.
  • Prepares inventory for future use.
  • Ensures safety and cleanliness by cleaning equipment, floors, and work areas.
Equipment Used

Includes air nail gun, stair router, drills, planer, jointer, various saws, forklift, door routing machine, shaper tools, and flatbed or tractor trailers.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, plus 1 year of related experience or training in millwork, construction, or lumber industries; or equivalent. At least 6 months experience operating machines and good mechanical aptitude required. Understanding of mill production products and components essential. Must prioritize quality, quantity, and safety.

Certificates and Licenses

CDL A or B may be required. Forklift certification may be required.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds regularly; standing occasionally required. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities.
