Job summary

Klein Tools is seeking a Machine Operator- Black Oxide to join our Texas-based manufacturing team. You will ensure precise black oxide coatings on metal components, operate coating equipment, and support a safe, efficient production flow.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of Black Oxide experience, read technical docs confidently, and demonstrate strong attention to detail with teamwork and problem-solving skills. This role may require overtime to meet production needs.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience as a Black Oxide Operator or similar role in metal manufacturing.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Familiarity with black oxide processes, chemical composition, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality-conscious mindset; basic mechanical aptitude and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain black oxide equipment and machinery in accordance with safety and operational guidelines.
• Prepare metal components for the black oxide process by cleaning, degreasing, and pretreatment steps.
• Monitor the black oxide process to achieve precise coating thickness and color consistency; ensure parts meet quality standards.
• Inspect coated components for defects and perform touch-ups or rework as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of processing parameters, inspection results, and inventory levels.
• Collaborate with the production team to ensure a smooth workflow and timely completion of orders.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues or process inefficiencies to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Technical certification in metal finishing or related field; experience with precision measuring instruments is preferred.

Machine Operator- Black Oxide

As a Machine Operator- Black Oxide, you will play a crucial role in our manufacturing process by ensuring the precise application of black oxide coatings to metal components, resulting in enhanced durability and corrosion resistance.

• Operate and maintain black oxide equipment and machinery in accordance with safety and operational guidelines.
• Prepare metal components for the black oxide process by cleaning, degreasing, and performing necessary pretreatment steps.
• Monitor the black oxide process to achieve precise coating thickness and color consistency, ensuring that parts meet quality standards.
• Conduct regular inspections of coated components for defects, and perform any necessary touch‑ups or rework as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of processing parameters, inspection results, and inventory levels.
• Collaborate with the production team to ensure a smooth workflow and timely completion of orders.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any equipment issues or process inefficiencies to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• One (1) to three (3) years of experience as a Black Oxide Operator or a similar role in a metal manufacturing environment.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Familiarity with black oxide processes, chemical composition, and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality‑conscious mindset. Basic mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Willingness to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects when necessary.
• Flexibility to work occasional overtime or weekend shifts as production demands.

Technical certification in metal finishing or related field, experience with precision measuring instruments calipers, micrometers, etc., and knowledge of different metal alloys and their unique black oxide requirements is preferred.
