Machine Operator B-Mill - 2nd Shift

Job Summary: To machine a wide variety of unusual and difficult parts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates various types and sizes of milling machines to perform a wide variety of unusual and difficult machining operations on a diversified line of large expensive or small intricate work to close dimensional tolerances.

  • Makes multi-tooled set ups on large planer type mills and/or vertical or horizontal column and knee type machines for difficult operations on work of complicated design where several related close tolerance dimensions must be maintained.

  • Determines machining operations, number of cuts required and method of set up to minimize the amount of machining.

  • Selects, mounts, and adjusts machine attachments, standard and improvised tooling, arbor and cutting tools. Determines, sets, and adjusts machine speeds, feeds, and depth of cut. Checks own machine set up and parts for conformance to print or specification. May be required to adapt standard tooling or improvise a locating and holding device to accomplish a job assignment.

  • May be required to make complete layout of parts for machining which involves the computation of compound angles and the use of handbook formulas, prints, specifications, etc.

  • Uses a wide variety of machinist hand tools, layout tools, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicator gages, height gages, gage blocks and sine bar or plate

  • Uses such equipment and machine accessories as mill fixtures, rotary table; indexing, dividing or boring heads; angle vices, vee blocks, angle plates, mill cutters, boring bars, drills and reamers.

  • Responsible only for own work.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education: Requires a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification. Requires the use of shop math, handbook formulas, blueprints, and a variety of precision measuring instruments.

Experience: Requires 3-5 years diversified milling machine experience to learn the duties and techniques involved and attain desired performance standard.

Working Conditions: Typical machine shop working conditions; may be slightly dirty and exposed to some fumes occasionally.
