Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a press setup operator responsible for preparing presses for production, loading materials, and maintaining ink and stock levels. You will coordinate with press crews and materials handlers to ensure efficient runs and quality results.

The role requires basic mechanical and computer skills, forklift operation, and the ability to work overtime. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, with six months of print production experience as a plus.

Qualifications

• Six months of print production experience or equivalent.
• Ability to operate forklift (or be trained) and electric pallet jack.
• Able to learn handling of thin weight stocks.
• Willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude from prior work experience.
• Must pass color vision and hue tests.
• Basic computer skills (email, word processing).
• Good attendance and reliability are essential.
• Able to perform all essential functions with/without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Review job tickets and schedule, organize and prepare loads for presses.
• Deliver materials to each machine for job runs.
• Mix inks as needed and change ink drums.
• Pull ink, paper, chemicals, and special sheets.
• Stock machines with materials.
• Communicate effectively with press crew, materials handlers, and supervisors.
• Follow instructions and assist press crews on the presses when required.
• Maintain housekeeping in pressroom areas.
• Stock shelves with incoming inventory or ordered items.
• Clean cutting area as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Opportunity

This position is responsible for setting up the press for the operators using the required materials for the particular product that is being produced (paper, ink, etc.) per job ticket and schedule.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review job tickets and schedule then organize and prepares loads for presses
• Bring material to each machine for job runs
• Mix inks as needed and change ink drums
• Pull ink, paper, chemicals, special sheets
• Stocks machines with materials
• Communicates effectively with press crew, materials handlers, and supervisors
• Follows instructions and works with press crews on the presses when required
• Maintains housekeeping in assigned areas of the pressroom (e.g., sweeping, emptying trash cans, etc.) as needed
• Stocks shelves with incoming inventory or ordered items when required
• Cleans cutting area as needed
• Performs other job duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of six months of print production experience or equivilent required.
• Ability to operate fork truck (or trained) and electric jack truck
• Able to learn how to handle/log thin weight stocks
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods
• Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude through prior work experience
• Must pass color vision and hue tests
• Basic computer skills required (email, word processing, etc.)
• Good attendance and reliability is essential
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation
