Job summary

Copeland is seeking a 2nd shift Machine Center Operator to safely run conventional, NC, and CNC equipment in an ISO9001 environment. You will read blueprints, verify tolerances, perform basic setups, and collaborate with engineers and production staff to maintain quality and output.

This role requires strength to lift up to 50 lbs, the ability to stand for extended periods, and a proactive problem-solving mindset. Training will cover all assigned equipment and processes.

Qualifications

  • Read blueprints including title blocks, views, tolerancing and symbols.
  • Perform basic shop math including decimals and unit conversions.
  • Utilize inspection gauges to verify part conformance.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem solving and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Operates manual, NC, and CNC machinery in assigned cell.
  • Assist in setup of multiple equipment/processes as needed.
  • Maintain quality by verifying part tolerances and dimensions.
  • Coordinate with engineers and production staff to resolve machining issues.
  • Document process improvements and train teammates as required.
  • Follow work instructions to meet production standards during training.

Shift

Shift: 2nd Schedule and Hours: Mon - Thurs; 3:00pm-1:30am (schedule/hours may vary)

Description

Responsible for operating conventional, special purpose and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines safely to fabricate metallic parts to production and quality standards in an ISO9001 environment.

Responsibilities
  • Operates machinery/process (manual, NC, CNC) in assigned work cell or area
  • Ability to promote to next level, Machine Center Operator II: Learn/demonstrate repetitive ability to setup ALL Manual/NC/CNC equipment/processes in assigned work cell or area
  • Demonstrated ability to setup and operate ALL assigned equipment/processes in work cell, validation by Machine Coordinator and Production Leadership
  • Work cross functionally between machines and cells
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining
  • Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems
  • Initiates and/or support process improvements and corresponding documentation
  • Trains other team members in assigned operations as needed
  • Follow Work Instructions for each step of the process to meet acceptable production standards during and after training completed
  • Maintain hourly/daily activity records supporting quality production
  • Assure compliance to all safety, environmental and health standards, procedures, and practices
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must “OWN SAFETY”.
  • Experience using inspection gauges (ex. Calipers, Micrometers, Indicators, Go-No Go Gages, Pin Gages, Dial Indicators, Height Gage, Depth Gage, Thread Gage, Bore Gage, V-Blocks, etc)
  • Must demonstrate ability to read blueprints (title blocks, views, dimensioning, tolerancing, surface call outs, symbols, lines, etc)
  • Must demonstrate ability to use shop math as required (decimals three places or more, conversion of fractions to decimal, conversion of metrics to standard and reverse, how to determine angles and offsets, addition/subtraction/multiplication/division of whole numbers/decimals/fractions)
  • Must be a proactive problem solver, willing to learn and accept challenges.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and push or pull parts or containers frequently.
  • Ability to read and understand job instructions.
  • Pass pre-employment background check, essential functions assessment, and drug screen.
