Mallard Manufacturing in Sterling, IL is seeking a Machine Operator to independently set up and operate production equipment, inspect parts, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.

You will read blueprints, perform first-piece and in-process inspections, document data, and support maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives. The role is on-site on 2nd shift, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of prior machine operator experience.
• Ability to perform complete machine setups independently.
• Strong blueprint-reading and technical interpretation skills.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling changes, calibration, and adjustments.
• Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measurement equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve routine production issues independently, escalating more complex problems when needed.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
• Accurately document production data, downtime, and corrective actions.
• Support preventive maintenance by identifying equipment wear, damage, and recurring problems while maintaining machine cleanliness and daily care requirements.
• Provide informal guidance and technical assistance to less experienced operators and collaborate with quality and maintenance teams to support production.
• Recommend improvements that enhance safety, efficiency, or quality and participate in continuous improvement and 5S initiatives.

Job Summary

Mallard Manufacturing, a MacLean-Fogg Company, is hiring a Machine Operator for our Sterling, Illinois manufacturing facility. In this role, you will independently set up and operate production equipment, inspect parts, troubleshoot production issues, and help improve safety, quality, and efficiency.

• Location: Sterling, IL
• Work Arrangement: On-site
• Schedule: 2nd Shift, Monday-Friday, 3:00 PM-11:00 PM
• Pay: $21.57-$22.98/hour
• Employment Type: Full-time / Hourly
• Overtime: Overtime may be required based on business needs.

What You'll Do as a Machine Operator

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• This role involves standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods, including shifts of up to 12 hours.
• The position requires regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 35-50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity is required for tool changes, machine adjustments, and material handling.
• Visual acuity is required for precision inspections and reading technical drawings.
• The manufacturing environment may include noise, vibration, dust, oil, and temperature variations.
• Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn.
