Job summary

Ryerson, a leading industrial metals provider, is seeking a Machine Operator 2 in Burns Harbor, IN. The role covers daily Cut to Length machine operation, setup, and potential CNC setup within a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities include inspecting feedstock and measuring equipment, maintaining quality standards, basic maintenance, and training others as needed. Eligible candidates enroll in our registered apprenticeship program as part of onboarding.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience as a Cut-to-Length machine operator
• Ability to navigate a computer to find information, enter information, and print as necessary
• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of onboarding

As a Machine Operator 2 you are responsible for daily Cut to Length machine operation for part processing. Machine set-up, potential CNC Machine set-up.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Feedstock material inspection to ensure quality specifications
• Calibration of measuring equipment (checking measuring equipment, i.e. tape measures, each day prior to using it in the course of a shift)
• Part inspection to ensure quality specifications
• Basic machine maintenance, including assisting maintenance personnel during breakdowns
• Ability and willingness to effectively train others on machines, work cell, or other business functions as required
• Pulling and staging feedstock for production orders
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• 3 - 5 years of experience as a skilled Cut to Length machine operator preferred
• Ability to navigate on a computer to find information, enter information when prompted, and print as necessary
• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding

Shift Hours: 2:30pm to 11pm Monday through Friday
