Position Summary

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating fabricating machines such as saws, shears, rolls, and brakes that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures in the manufacturing of tank systems.

Machine Operator Duties and Responsibilities
  • Read job specifications and blueprints to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Set stops or guides to specified lengths using scales, rules, or templates.
  • Position workpieces against stops or align layout marks with dies or blades.
  • Activate machines and observe operation to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Measure workpieces to ensure accuracy.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment following safety procedures.
  • Possibly perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read blueprints and sketches.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Proficiency with measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively.

Education and Qualifications

Physical Requirements

Continuous standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, or smelling. Ability to lift up to 45 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
