Job summary

Reliance, Inc. is seeking an experienced Machinist to perform advanced production tasks, handle multiple machines, read blueprints, and inspect finished parts.

This role requires proficiency with gauges, calipers, micrometers, and common measurement tools, plus the ability to set up tooling and adjust machine parameters accurately. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience operating overhead cranes or forklifts, strong mechanical aptitude, and meticulous attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Advanced reading and writing comprehension in English (to read work order instructions, safety and policy manuals).
  • Advanced measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper, gauges or micrometer.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
  • Experience operating an overhead crane / forklift operator.
  • Must be proficient in the use of hand tools including grinder.
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination.
  • Computer Literacy; Microsoft Products, CAD Programming and ERP.
  • Must be organized with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Positions work pieces for processing.
  • Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, sawing, grinding, turning, drilling, boring and milling.
  • Uses gauges, calipers, squares, rulers, micrometers, OD & ID Mic’s, pin gauges and depth micrometers for measurement.
  • Determines processing specifications by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
  • Installs and aligns specified punches, cutting blades or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims or hand tools.
  • Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates; and diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections.
  • Coordinates and executes material handling of all inventories to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
  • Performs limited preventative maintenance, such as lubrication, cleaning and changing of parts.
  • May train less experienced workers and perform as lead in absence of group leader.
  • May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.
  • May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping.
  • Restocks material.
  • Completes work order paperwork/documentation.

Job Function
