Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Production Line Lead and a dotted line reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Machine Operator will be responsible for ensuring production orders are fulfilled to meet daily targets. This includes operating production machinery and equipment independently, conducting routine checks to ensure product quality and accurately labeling and packaging finished goods. This role will also be responsible for providing new hire and refresher training to other team members, ensuring accurate documentation of production data, and escalating issues to the appropriate personnel and department leads.

Job Duties

Daily Production

  • Complete pre-assembly tasks such as setting up belts and opening boxes.
  • Feed raw materials into production machinery and monitor continuously.
  • Pack finished goods for shipping and apply accurate production labels.
  • Conduct basic quality and testing checks and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Store goods and raw materials properly in production and/or warehouse.
  • Perform manual tasks including material handling, packaging, and stacking of finished goods.
  • Assist machine operators by loading raw materials and removing finished products.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sanitation and product handling.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Report issues such as quality concerns, damaged products, or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate team members or departments.
  • Shadow experienced operators to learn equipment basics for skill development and cross-training.
  • Provide coverage or relief for other lines and teams as assigned by the supervisor.

Operation of Production Equipment and Machinery

  • Safely operate and monitor production machinery.
  • Perform basic machine changeovers and adjustment to minimize downtime.
  • Complete basic troubleshooting when required.
  • Escalate complex machine breakdowns to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist and provide training to other team members on safe operation of production machinery.

Documentation and Production Quality Checks

  • Maintain and complete accurate production records.
  • Continuously conduct product checks to ensure quality of goods.
  • Escalate product quality issues to the line lead, production supervisor and/or Quality.

Compliance and Policy Adherence

  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including facility cleanliness, personal hygiene, and equipment sanitation when handling food products.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and report any safety concerns to management.
  • Comply with all Food Safety, HACCP, Quality, and Operational procedures as defined in NMF’s Quality Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years experience working in food manufacturing as a machine operator or related .
  • Previous experience with machine troubleshooting, assembly and disassembly .
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills required.
  • Forklift training or certification considered an asset.
  • Basic workplace safety knowledge (PPE, emergency procedures).
  • Understanding of workplace rules (attendance, GMPs, basic SOPs).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide basic training to other team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Adaptable, resourceful and a willingness to learn.

Working Conditions

  • Weekend work, overtime and statutory holiday hours may be required.
  • Long periods of standing, sitting and bending required for the role.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50+ lbs.
  • Will be exposed to a noisy and wet environment with varying temperatures.
  • Allergens present – e.g. soy, wheat, etc.
  • Required to wear PPE such as safety boots, hair nets, lab coats and more.
  • No jewelry allowed on the production floor.

Compensation range for this position in Stanwood, Washington:

$18 to per hour

The compensation depends on qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan annually, personal medical and parental leave, paid holidays, and family care benefits.
