Summary of Position

The Machine Operator is tasked to set up, operate, and maintain machines in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. The role is responsible for ensuring product quality, meeting production standards, and maintaining a safe and clean work area while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Ensure personal compliance with all company Quality System, Operational, and Human Resource policies, procedures, and practices, including safety and completing required documentation accurately and timely.
• Meet or exceed prescribed job standards for line speeds, scrap, and set‑up times.
• Review work instructions and procedures applicable to the position.
• Perform changeovers.
• Report any unsafe working conditions to the production supervisor.
• Clean machines daily; organize machine and material parts during closing operations.
• Read job specifications and previous run data (if available) to determine machine adjustments and material requirements, ensuring the job is in order prior to machine set‑up.
• Ensure the proper packaging materials are used for each product being produced.
• Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions and make corrections to alleviate out‑of‑specification products.
• Measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
• Perform required quality testing on products produced and any required quality control checks and data entry.
• Perform machine maintenance and execute preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Assist and work cooperatively with assistant machine operators to stack, mark, pack, and transport finished boxes.
• Make recommendations to supervision and management for improvements in production efficiency and workflow.
• Maintain production reports.
• Trash and trim removal.

Non‑essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Could be asked to support other parts of the operations, including press assistant, pouching, slitting, and lamination.
• Other duties as assigned by management and supervisors.
• Participate in ongoing training opportunities and support a continuous quality improvement environment.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Visual acuity to color consistency.
• Manual coordination and dexterity.
• Ability to use basic hand tools.
• Ability to work safely around operating machinery.
• Simple mathematical ability for required reports.
• Computer literacy.
• Ability to read a ruler.
• Mechanical skills and use of basic hand tools.

Experience and Education

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of flexible packaging films is a plus.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be flexible in work schedule; willing to work overtime based on business need.

Work Environment

• Employee is around moving mechanical parts and vibration.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Requires certain PPE, such as hairnets, steel‑toed shoes, and facility‑specific uniform requirements.
