As a Machine Operator, you’ll work independently in the field, placing buried service wire using manual tools such as gasoline or diesel-powered tractors, plows, boring machines, or other manual equipment. You’ll coordinate work activities with customers, utilities, and government agencies, providing installation, repairs, maintenance, and reconnection of fiber and copper services, all while following safety practices and delivering high-quality service.

What you’ll do:
  1. Locate buried facilities near the route of service wire using appropriate equipment. Operate company vehicles with trailers and machinery.
  2. Perform manual excavation using shovels.
  3. Provide repairs to low voltage buried utilities, sprinkler systems, and sewage field lines, including temporary repairs during duties.
  4. Conduct periodic maintenance and simple repairs on equipment used in your responsibilities.
  5. Read and interpret simple instructions.
  6. Follow established safety practices and manufacturer’s specifications for equipment operation.
What you’ll need:
  • Desire to work Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts.
  • Ability to work mandatory overtime and holidays as required.
  • Eagerness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate various machines and tools.
  • Lift and move objects up to 120 pounds.
  • Use computers and handheld devices to update work status and check assignments.
  • Light commercial driver’s license or equivalent, depending on state law, and ability to drive a manual shift vehicle.
  • Maintain a DOT medical card.
  • Complete required training and demonstrate competency during the probationary period.
  • Previous experience with similar equipment is desirable.
  • Perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Be willing to go out of region/state for workload or emergency work.
