JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, the Machine Operator I provides support to production teams, assists machine operators with tasks, maintains materials and supplies, tracks inventories, and packages finished products. The position reports to the team leader on work status updates.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Reading and interpreting production paperwork such as Sales Orders, Production Notes, Customer Specifications, and Set-Up Sheets.
• Setting up assigned machines according to guidelines and specifications.
• Performing changeovers on extrusion lines following customer specifications.
• Auditing material consumption and loading.
• Entering production data into the ERP system.
• Inspecting and preparing customer samples as per specifications.
• Conducting tooling changes or machine adjustments.
• Recommending improvements to production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
• Suggesting changes in working conditions and equipment to improve efficiency.
• Attending shift and safety meetings when required.
• Assisting coworkers to meet key performance indicators.
• Acquiring skills to operate lines in one production segment.
• Performing duties of Utility and Machine Operator as needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education & Skillsets include:

• Effective communication with workers, supervisors, managers, and customers.
• Applying common sense to carry out complex, multi-step instructions.
• Problem-solving in non-standardized situations with multiple variables.
• Multi-tasking and strong time management skills.
• Reading and understanding complex instructions and correspondence.
• Ability to travel between facilities.
• Working overtime if required.
• Proficiency with computers and manufacturing software.
• Mathematical skills including fractions and decimals.
• Ability to read rulers and measurements.

Preferred qualifications include:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Associate degree from a technical school.
• 1-3 years' experience with dies and extruders.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Push or pull heavy objects with assistance.
• Work 12-hour shifts.
• Perform repetitive tasks.
• Stand, sit, walk, reach, climb, bend, kneel, and crouch.
• Good vision, depth perception, and focus.
• Meet certification requirements for operating power industrial trucks.

PPE Requirements:

• Safety shoes, glasses, bump caps, gloves, hearing protection, and other PPE as needed.

Work Environment:

• Manufacturing conditions with variable temperatures.
• Potential exposure to dust, fumes, odors, and hazards.
