Job summary

Workday, Inc. in Pleasanton, CA is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern to help develop Workday’s intelligent core for personalized experiences used by millions of users.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers and researchers to design, implement, and deploy ML models and LLM-based applications supporting data products. You’ll write production-grade code, run experiments, and work with large datasets to improve model and system performance.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, AI, Software Engineering, or related field
• Less than 12 months of previous professional work experience
• Anticipated graduation December 2027–June 2028
• Available for a full-time, in-person, 12-week internship Summer 2027 in listed locations
• Experience with both software engineering and ML concepts through coursework or projects
• Experience programming in Python or similar language for ML or data processing
• Familiarity with RAG, NLP, Pandas, PySpark, or AWS
• Interest in LLM-based approaches such as retrieval, prompt tuning, embeddings, or model evaluation

Responsibilities

• Contribute across the full ML lifecycle from data processing to deployment
• Apply ML and AI techniques including deep learning and LLMs to power search and user experiences
• Write production-quality code and build scalable components for AI/ML products
• Build and deploy APIs and microservices using a modern stack including Docker and Kubernetes
• Design and run evaluations to measure model and system quality and guide improvements
