ROLEWe are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join a dynamic team supporting the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Emerging and Innovation (E&I) initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact federal technology programs, helping modernize patent and trademark operations through artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud innovation.This is a full-time remote opportunity in which we'll provide competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and job stability and security.Apply today!RESPONSIBILITIES- Design, develop, and implement AI/ML and NLP solutions in support of USPTO innovation goals
- Evaluate emerging technologies and participate in prototyping and proof-of-concept (POC) development
- Apply data science techniques to derive actionable insights from large, complex datasets
- Collaborate with UX, cloud engineering, and architecture teams to create integrated technical solutions
- Support MLOps pipelines and model lifecycle in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Contribute to user-centered design initiatives through analytics and experimentation
- Ensure compliance with federal data security, privacy, and FedRAMP requirements
- Participate in modernization efforts, including evaluation of cloud migration strategies
- Generate technical documentation to support model development, lifecycle tracking, and compliance requirements
- Produce reports and summaries to support risk assessments, innovation planning, and decision-making
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS- Proficiency with Python, R, or similar tools for data analysis and model building required
- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) required
- Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow) preferred
- Exposure to UX/CX research and human-centered design methods preferred
- Understanding of federal cybersecurity frameworks and requirements (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and FISMA) preferred
- Ability to work in a collaborative, Agile environment and communicate technical findings clearly required
TECHNICAL STACK- Languages: Python, R, SQL

BACKGROUND- 3+ years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, and/or AI solution development required
- Experience supporting federal or public-sector projects required
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) required
EDUCATION- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field required
LOCATIONCLEARANCE- U.S. citizenship is required as it supports the U.S. federal government
