About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Distinguished Engineer specializing in Machine Learning to join our Consumer Engagement Platform team. This remote-eligible role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable, real-time personalization systems that enhance user experiences across all Capital One products. As a key technical leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and infrastructure engineers to architect innovative solutions that power hyper-personalized content, targeted messaging, and recommendation engines. Your expertise will drive strategic initiatives, influence technical standards, and mentor engineering talent, ensuring the delivery of robust, high-performance systems that support our mission to change banking for good.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• Minimum of 7 years of software engineering or development experience
• At least 5 years of experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Extensive hands-on experience with Machine Learning frameworks including PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Java
• Experience in designing and deploying recommendation systems and personalization platforms
• Strong understanding of cloud-native engineering, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and automated deployment practices
• Experience with ML pipeline orchestration and workflow tools like Databricks, Airflow, or Kubeflow (7+ years preferred)
• Demonstrated leadership in driving platform strategy and cross-team collaboration
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts

Responsibilities

• Define and evangelize a bold technical vision for the Personalization Platform that delivers real-time, hyper-personalized experiences across multiple channels
• Decompose complex problems into practical, scalable solutions that meet business and technical requirements
• Ensure high-quality technical design, implementation, and operational excellence of personalization systems
• Lead the development of scalable ML infrastructure, including feature extraction, model training, testing, deployment, and inference workflows
• Architect low-latency, event-driven systems for real-time personalization based on streaming data and user behavior
• Partner with Data Science, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product teams to develop advanced recommendation algorithms and multi-channel messaging strategies
• Drive the evolution of MLOps practices by building automated deployment workflows, validation systems, and monitoring tools
• Mentor and coach engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
• Act as a trusted technical advisor, creating documentation, blog posts, and knowledge-sharing materials to promote best practices
