Orenda, a NYC-based energy tech company, seeks a Machine Learning Engineer to advance forecasting capabilities for energy storage projects. You will own timeseries models, evaluate forecasts, and collaborate with engineers to productionize solutions.

Qualifications

• Excellent problem solver with the ability to handle difficult problems and follow through.
• B.S. degree and 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of timeseries forecasting, ML algorithms, data processing, and model optimization.
• 2+ years of Python with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Experience with AI-driven development workflows and coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex).
• Proven ability to design, run, and analyze experiments.
• Experience with cloud computing environments.
• First principles mindset with strong math focus.
• Keen attention to detail and high work ethic.

Responsibilities

Orenda is on a mission to make the grid more efficient with batteries and software. We build and operate energy storage projects in dense urban environments to bridge the gap between renewables and electricity consumption.

Orenda Asset Technology is developing the software and hardware platform to operate these projects. We use machine learning to forecast electricity markets and decision algorithms to allocate energy optimally. Our cloud platform connects to on-site energy controls systems to monitor and manage our fleets.

Role

Orenda is looking to hire a Machine Learning Engineer to join our Asset Technology team. This individual will advance our forecasting capabilities and expand our models across energy markets. What You’ll Do

• Devise, iterate on, and deliver timeseries ML algorithms/models to solve novel problems in the energy storage space


• Design and implement thorough evaluation frameworks for our forecasts


• For existing models: improve performance, fine-tune parameters, and enrich features


• Perform statistical analysis on market data and model performance


• Confidently communicate your findings via empirical results, thorough documentation, and stakeholder reports


• Work closely with software engineers to productionize your models and design APIs


• Ideate with Orenda’s strategy team on market blueprints and their implementation


• Learn about energy markets and batteries

Qualifications

• Excellent problem solver with an affinity for interesting and difficult problems and the follow-through to solve them


• B.S. and 3+ years of relevant experience


• Deep understanding of timeseries forecasting, machine learning algorithms, data processing, and model optimization techniques


• 2+ years experience writing clean, maintainable Python code with Machine Learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow)


• Proficiency with AI-driven development workflows and coding agents (Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, etc.)


• Demonstrated experience crafting, performing, and analyzing experiments


• Proficiency working in a cloud computing environment


• You take a first principles, mathematically-minded approach to new problems


• Keen attention to detail. You do not need someone to inspect your work


• Relentlessly positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus)

• Experience in energy markets


• SWE background (cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, production-level code)

This is a full time, in-office position requiring work from our headquarters (Brooklyn, NY) five days a week.

• Base Salary: The anticipated base salary range for this full-time position in New York City is $100,000-$175,000 per year. The final base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.


• Bonus: In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible for a significant annual performance-based bonus.
