Apple’s Synthetic Data Group (SDG) is seeking a skilled Machine Learning Engineer with hands-on experience in Generative AI to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, training, and deploying state-of-the-art generative models to solve problems across various domains (text, image, and video). You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including technical artists, computer graphics engineers, ML engineers, and product managers, to develop cutting-edge AI solutions that push the boundaries of creativity and automation. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering successful computer vision applications, with experience in developing and deploying deep learning models in production environments.

Description

1. Design, train, and fine-tune Generative AI models (e.g., GANs, VAEs, Diffusion Models, Transformers like GPT, Stable Diffusion).
2. Develop and optimize large-scale deep learning models for text, image, and video generation.
3. Implement efficient training pipelines using distributed computing and cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).
4. Research and experiment with foundation models, multimodal AI, and reinforcement learning to enhance generative capabilities.
5. Collaborate with synthetic data engineers to preprocess datasets, create synthetic data, and optimize data pipelines.
6. Deploy generative AI models into production using ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and MLOps best practices.
7. Optimize model inference for latency and efficiency, leveraging quantization, pruning, and edge deployment strategies.
8. Stay updated with cutting-edge AI research, contribute to patents/publications, and participate in open-source projects.
9. Work closely with product teams to integrate generative AI into real-world applications (e.g., content creation, automation, digital assistants).

Minimum Qualifications

• BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience.
• Experience in Computer Graphics fundamentals (3D Gaussian Splats, path tracing, rendering, ...)
• Familiarity with real-time / path tracing renderers (VRay, Arnold, Unreal Engine, ...).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with RLHF (Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback).
• Contributions to open-source ML projects or publications in top AI conferences.
• Experience in automated content generation, synthetic media, or AI-powered creative tools.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Machine Learning & Deep Learning.
• Strong expertise in Generative AI models (Diffusion Models, GANs, VAEs, Transformers).
• Experience using Synthetic Data for training computer vision models.
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX.
• Experience with NLP, Computer Vision, or Multimodal AI.
• Familiarity with LLMs (GPT, LLaMA, Mistral, etc.) and fine-tuning techniques like LoRA, PEFT.
• Experience in model deployment using Docker, TensorRT, ONNX.
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing (AWS, GCP) and distributed model training.
• Experience with MLOps, model versioning, and monitoring (MLflow, Weights & Biases).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Employees can participate in stock programs, receive benefits such as medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, discounts, educational reimbursement, and may be eligible for bonuses or relocation support.
