Job summary

Manufacturing Technology, Inc. (MTI) in South Bend, Indiana, is seeking a Machine Control Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain control software for friction welding machines.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver low-level drivers through end-user HMIs and ensure robust documentation. This onsite role requires experience in WPF, C++, PLCs, and DCS/SCADA, plus strong communication skills to support customers and installation personnel.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and developing WPF applications in MS Visual Studio.
• Experience using XML in WPF applications.
• Experience with Industrial machine HMI development in .NET.
• Strong object-oriented programming in .NET.
• Experience with UML for HMI software.
• Developing multi-threaded Windows applications.
• Interfacing C++ DLLs in .NET framework.
• Knowledge of streaming concepts and UDP.
• Experience deploying software packages.
• Understanding of DCS/SCADA and hardware abstraction.
• Motion control and DAQ/sensors experience.
• PLC fundamentals and machine networking (Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
• Source control with SVN and GitLab.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Willingness to learn new processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, document, integrate and maintain control software for friction welding machines.
• Design user interfaces and end-user HMIs across the software stack.
• Collaborate with Controls, Mechanical and Fluid Power teams.
• Assist with machine start-up, interface software commissioning, and debugging.
• Maintain architectural and programming conventions for new and existing software.
• Advocate and maintain programming standards and verification methods.
• Provide technical support to customers, service technicians and installation personnel.
