Job Description
Step into a hands-on role where your craftsmanship directly keeps industrial operations running safely and efficiently. This contract opportunity is ideal for a skilled machine builder who thrives on complex mechanical and electrical work, precision, and high-quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for building, assembling, and integrating industrial machinery and equipment from mechanical, electrical, and fabricated components. Working from drawings and specifications, you will ensure each machine is constructed to exact tolerances, wired correctly, and meets all safety and quality requirements before deployment. Your work will have a direct impact on production reliability, operator safety, and overall equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble mechanical components, frames, and subassemblies according to engineering drawings, schematics, and build instructions.
- Perform industrial electrical wiring, including routing, terminations, panel wiring, and component installation on machinery.
- Use precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify dimensions, alignments, and tolerances during and after assembly.
- Conduct in-process and final quality inspections to ensure machines meet specifications, performance criteria, and customer requirements.
- Fabricate parts, brackets, and structures using cutting, forming, and welding processes as needed to complete machine builds.
- Apply OSHA and facility safety standards during all build activities, including proper lockout/tagout, PPE use, and safe tool operation.
- Diagnose and correct assembly or wiring issues, making adjustments and rework to achieve proper machine function and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other technicians to clarify build requirements and support continuous improvement of build processes.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in machine building, industrial equipment assembly, or a similar hands-on manufacturing role.
- Strong mechanical assembly skills, including reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and assembly diagrams.
- Demonstrated proficiency in industrial electrical wiring, including working from electrical schematics and wiring schedules.
- Solid understanding of OSHA safety regulations and practical experience applying safety compliance on the shop floor.
- Ability to perform accurate precision measurements and dimensional checks using standard measurement tools.
- Experience conducting quality inspections on assembled machinery or fabricated components.
- Proficiency in basic welding and metal fabrication techniques used in equipment construction.
- Ability to work independently, manage build tasks to deadlines, and adapt to changing project priorities.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience building custom or one-off industrial machines or automation equipment.
- Familiarity with PLC panels, control devices, sensors, and basic troubleshooting of control circuits.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices in a production environment.
- Ability to provide feedback to engineering on design-for-assembly improvements.
- Experience working in contract or project-based roles with varying customer specifications.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical certificate or diploma in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, or electrical technology preferred.
- Formal training or certification in welding or metal fabrication is an advantage.
- OSHA safety training or certification (e.g., OSHA 10 or OSHA 30) preferred.
- Relevant vocational or apprenticeship training in machine building, industrial assembly, or electrical work is highly valued.
If you are a detail-focused machine builder who takes pride in safe, precise, and reliable work, this contract role offers a strong platform to showcase your skills.
