You’ll work with a team that values precision, safety, and craftsmanship, building equipment that meets strict performance and regulatory standards.

About the Role:

In this role, you will be responsible for assembling, fabricating, and modifying mechanical systems and machinery from detailed blueprints and technical drawings. You will play a key part in turning engineered designs into fully functioning equipment, ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and timeline expectations. Your expertise in welding, metalworking, and OSHA-compliant practices will help maintain a safe, efficient, and professional build environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical assembly of machinery and equipment components according to blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Fabricate structural and mechanical parts using cutting, drilling, grinding, forming, and fitting techniques.
  • Execute welding tasks (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick) on various metals to create strong, accurate, and clean welds.
  • Interpret and verify engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and materials prior to fabrication and assembly.
  • Set up and operate metalworking tools and equipment such as saws, presses, drills, grinders, and basic CNC/manual machines as needed.
  • Inspect completed assemblies for alignment, fit, function, and quality, making adjustments and corrections where required.
  • Follow OSHA and Michigan safety regulations, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe material handling.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other builders to resolve build issues and support continuous improvement of build processes.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in mechanical assembly and fabrication within an industrial, manufacturing, or machine-building environment.
  • Strong hands-on welding skills with practical experience in common industrial welding processes.
  • Solid understanding of metalworking fundamentals, including material properties and appropriate fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to accurately read, interpret, and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and mechanical schematics.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and compliance with OSHA and Michigan-specific safety regulations.
  • Competence in using hand tools, power tools, and standard shop equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Reliable, self-directed work style with the ability to meet deadlines in a contract/project-based environment.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience building custom or special-purpose machinery or automation equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical components as they relate to mechanical assemblies.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to assist with minor design or build modifications in collaboration with engineering.
  • Experience documenting build steps, changes, or issues for future reference and process improvement.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a vocational/technical program in welding, machining, industrial technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Recognized welding certification (e.g., AWS) is an advantage.
  • Additional training or certification in industrial safety or OSHA compliance is beneficial.
