Job and Ideal Candidate:

This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of providers across Vanguard's dermatology and Mohs surgery practices. Team members in this position will support multiple physicians, including our three fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons, while developing expertise in both Medical Assistant and Mohs Technician responsibilities. No two days look exactly the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to develop expertise in both clinical and surgical dermatology.

The successful candidate is highly organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering an exceptional patient experience while supporting providers across multiple areas of the practice. The main focus of this role is covering as a surgical medical assistant and Mohs tech. Additional float time hours may be spent as a general medical assistant or in administrative areas such as scheduling, surgery scheduling, or referrals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinical Medical Assistant

• Escorts patients to exam room, takes detailed medical history, documents medications, and confirms reason for visit. Takes vitals as needed. Documents appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Communicates patient reason for visit and medical summary to medical providers accurately and efficiently in preparation for exam.
• Acts as chaperone for the provider examination. Scribes during the visit, accurately documenting areas examined, notable findings, treatment plan, recommended medications, and recommended procedures.
• Assists providers in dermatology/plastic surgery specific procedures including administering local anesthesia, blotting during surgeries/biopsies, cutting suture, and bandaging post-procedure.
• Speaks with patients over the phone as directed regarding biopsy results, medication prior authorization status, and other patient questions and concerns. Documents calls and prior authorizations in the EMR.

Mohs Technician

• Mohs Lab Technicians work primarily to prepare tissue samples to be read by our Mohs surgeons
• Will cut tissue on a cryostat and prepare slides during our Mohs surgery clinics, providing high-quality slides with consistency
• The position requires excellent organization skills and efficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science (biology, chemistry, etc.) from an accredited 4-year university, or equivalent laboratory certification, such as MLT or histotechnician
• Proven track record of working well on teams and delivering excellence.
• Excellent verbal and written skills required. Customer service experience a plus.
• Alignment with the values and mission of Vanguard Skin Specialists.

Schedule:

This is a full-time position with business hours Monday to Friday. You will work across multiple offices (Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Canon City, Woodland Park, and Pueblo)

Reviews:

Vanguard Skin Specialists believes in providing regular feedback and encouraging professional development. Your first check in with HR will be approximately 90 days from your date of hire. Written annual reviews take place each fall. For individuals with <6 months of tenure by fall review but >6 months tenure at spring review, then the initial review will take place in the spring review.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Compensation is $21-25 per hour with eligibility for overtime and paid time off. The practice covers a portion of the premium for medical benefits and also offers vision, dental, and 401K.

Physical Working Conditions:

• Must be able to sit, stand, and/or walk for up to 10 hours
• Must be able to lift up to 25-50 pounds
• Operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, printer, copier, scanner, or fax

• Can identify color on the computer and software used
