The University of Washington in Seattle is seeking a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C) for UW Medical Center-Montlake, Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Center at Roosevelt. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) on the day shift, Monday–Friday, 7:30–4pm, on site.

The MA-C will perform patient rooming, vital signs, injections, and assist with procedures while coordinating with providers to support orthopedic care and patient flow in a busy clinic.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by CAAHEP/ABHES or equivalent.
  • Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or eligible within 6 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records.
  • Perform injections and prepare/clean exam rooms.
  • Submit medication prior authorizations and assist with procedures.
  • Report abnormal lab values and transport patients as needed.

Department Description

Located in the University District, the care team at the Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Center at UW Medical Center - Roosevelt provides comprehensive orthopedic and musculoskeletal care, with the goal of helping you return to normal life activities.

Our board-certified specialists have experience treating complex injuries and chronic conditions, including osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. We perform surgery on the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, and minimally invasive shoulder and elbow arthroscopy.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
  • Perform injections
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms
  • Submit medication prior authorizations
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values
  • Assist in transporting patients as required
Requirements
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
