Nelnet is hiring a M365 Engineer who will administer and govern SharePoint Online, Viva, Power Platform, and Azure services, driving adoption and automation across the Modern Workplace. You will partner with business teams to implement low-code solutions, ensure security and compliance, and maintain documentation and runbooks.
The role supports a hybrid work model near offices in the United States and requires authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

The M365 Engineer - Modern Workplace implements, administers, and supports business-focused Microsoft 365 services across SharePoint Online, Microsoft Viva, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric, Azure services, and Copilot. This role partners with business and technical teams to deliver secure, reliable, well-governed collaboration, automation, analytics, and AI-enabled workplace solutions. The engineer serves as an escalation point for complex incidents and service requests, supports platform governance and adoption, and maintains documentation, standards, and automation to improve operational efficiency.
This position offers a hybrid work option. Nelnet values flexibility and understands the importance of work-life integration. Our hybrid work environment allows associates within 30 miles of an office to work remotely for part of the week, while also fostering collaboration and team connection through in-office presence.
Administer and support SharePoint Online, Microsoft Viva, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric, Azure services, and Copilot capabilities with an emphasis on governance, lifecycle management, reliability, and service health.
Support collaboration sites, content management, permissions, site architecture, document management, adoption, and information governance practices across SharePoint Online and related Microsoft 365 workloads.
Partner with business stakeholders to identify automation, workflow, reporting, and digital transformation opportunities using Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Copilot Studio, and related platform capabilities.
Support Fabric and Power BI administration activities that enable data integration, dataflows, reporting, business intelligence, and analytics use cases in alignment with organizational governance standards.
Administer Azure services that support Modern Workplace solutions, including subscriptions, resource groups, storage accounts, serverless services, application integrations, automation, and operational governance outside of Entra ID administration.
Support Copilot for Microsoft 365 readiness, governance, adoption, communication, end-user enablement, and related operational processes.
Automate administrative and operational tasks using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power Platform automation, Azure Automation, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, and other scripting or integration technologies as appropriate.
Partner with security, compliance, infrastructure, networking, and service desk teams to maintain a secure, stable, and compliant environment while supporting change management, release planning, DLP, retention, access controls, and platform governance activities.
Serve as an escalation point for complex Microsoft 365 incidents and service requests; develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, standards, operational procedures, training materials, and adoption resources; and mentor or provide knowledge transfer to support staff as needed.
Monitor platform health, licensing, service advisories, Message Center updates, Azure and Microsoft 365 roadmap changes, emerging AI and collaboration capabilities, and recommend improvements that strengthen reliability, security, user experience, and operational efficiency.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Compensation for this position is $75,000-$120,000 annually, depending on experience.
