Nelnet, Inc. is seeking a Senior DevOps & Cloud Engineer for the Nelnet Business Services unit to drive cloud deployments, configure and support IT infrastructure, and develop automated solutions.

You will work across teams to gather requirements, design solutions, and document systems while ensuring security and compliance. The role requires 8+ years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in CS or related field, with certifications in AWS/Azure preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in related fields.
• Certification in AWS or Azure as Cloud Architect/DevOps Architect or similar.
• Experience with virtualization and containerization (VMware/Hyper-V/Docker/Kubernetes).
• Strong scripting in PowerShell and Bash.
• Knowledge of networking, security, and CI/CD.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Develops, modifies, and maintains IT cloud infrastructure to meet business objectives
• Implements and oversight on technical solutions for various sized projects or daily support initiatives
• Creates and maintains technical documentation for IT systems and solutions
• Works with customers, stakeholders, system owners to produce requirements, feasibility, cost/benefits, and design options
• Provides training and technical support for users with varying IT knowledge
• Completes and evaluates enhancements to routine preventative measures
• Ensures logging and participates in log analysis for vulnerability reviews, penetration assessments, and network monitoring
• Assists in regulatory attestations to maintain system and network compliance

The Senior DevOps & Cloud Engineer for NBS is an expert on cloud deployments, configuration, support, administration, and technical solutions to various technology components that make up the IT cloud-based environment across the business unit.

Job Responsibilities

• Develops, modifies, and maintains IT cloud infrastructure to meet business objectives

• Works with multiple customers, stakeholders, and system owners to produce requirements, determine feasibility, analyze cost/benefits requirements, and recommend design solution options
• Provides training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge
• Completes and evaluates enhancements to routine preventative measures
• Ensures logging occurs and participates in log analysis for vulnerability reviews, penetration assessments, and network monitoring
• Assists in regulatory body attestations to maintain system and network compliance

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (equivalent experience may be substituted).

Experience

8+ years of experience in the related competency fields listed below.

• Expert/in‑depth experience or knowledge in the following areas:
  • Certification in Amazon or Azure as Cloud Architect, DevOps Architect or similar
  • AWS or Azure services: cloud concepts and many cloud services
  • Virtualization technologies: VMware, Hyper‑V, cloud-based host virtualization, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Windows Technologies: PowerShell scripting, server setup, troubleshooting, maintenance
  • Linux Technologies: Bash scripting, SELinux, server setup, troubleshooting, maintenance
  • Networking: subnetting, routing, firewalls, advanced DNS management, load balancers, IDS/IPS, VPN
  • Security: security protocols, security best practices, and vulnerability remediation
  • DevOps: CI/CD design, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Abilities in the following areas:

Compensation range for this role is $120,000-$130,000 annually, depending on experience.
