Job summary

Summit Utilities, Inc. is seeking a dedicated M&R Technician 1 to test, repair, and maintain gas meters, regulators, and related equipment.

You will perform calibration, testing, and installation tasks while ensuring safety and compliance with applicable standards. You will work independently, respond to emergencies, and support operations with meter testing, valve maintenance, and instrumentation troubleshooting in Pine Bluff, AR.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma and basic English/mathematics.
  • Minimum 6 years natural gas operations experience; 10 years preferred, or 2 years advanced technical education with instrumentation/measurement background.

Responsibilities

  • Tests field meters for calibration at service initiation.
  • Inspects and repairs meters, regulators, and pressure stations.
  • Calibrates and tests control valves, actuators, and relief valves.
  • Installs and calibrates recording instruments and electronic data devices.
  • Supports telemetry equipment and data collection.
  • Coordinates meter tests with supplier measurement staff.
  • Adjusts system pressures as needed.
  • Assists with large-volume meter installations and cold-weather readiness.
  • Responds to callouts and emergencies as needed.

We have an exciting opportunity for a M&R Technician 1 (SGL5) based in Pine Bluff, AR!

POSITION SUMMARY

Tests, repairs and maintains gas meters for flow, pressure, and accurate measurements; performs all aspects of large meter, regulator and relief valve installation, maintenance, calibration, testing, and repair. Applicants must be dedicated to working safely, independently, and possess the desire to achieve excellence.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs field tests on meters for calibration upon institution of service and placement into service.
  • Inspects, tests, calibrates and/or repairs field test meters, city gate stations, pressure regulating stations and related equipment as scheduled by compliance or upon special request.
  • Inspects and repairs all types of control valves, actuators, regulators, monitors, relief valves, etc., located on regulating and metering stations.
  • Installs, tests, calibrates and repairs recording instruments such as mechanical volume integrating gauges, recording pressure gauges, electronic correctors, base pressure gauges, recording thermometers and various electronic equipment supported by electronic devices such as tablets and/or laptop computers.
  • Installs, tests and repairs telemetering equipment, telephone modems, and protective equipment.
  • Coordinates and witnesses meter tests in conjunction with supplier's measurement personnel.
  • Adjust distribution system operating pressures, as necessary.
  • Assist operations personnel in the installation of large volume meter and regulator sets.
  • Assist operations personnel in operating the gas systems, including but not limited to; up-rating systems, troubleshooting pressure problems, troubleshooting odorization equipment, being available during cold weather events, etc.
  • Assist with high-bill complaint investigations requested by large-volume customers.
  • Perform other miscellaneous assignments including repairing leaks on large meter and regulator stations, painting stations, pressure study assistance.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and take all required training courses.
  • Must demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the Company's P.E.A.K. values and business practices.
  • On-call and respond to emergencies when needed.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages), punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
  • A minimum of 6 years of natural gas operations experience, 10 years preferred, or a minimum of two years of advanced technical education and/or experience in instrumentation, electronics, and/or measurement applications regardless of industry.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic equipment.
  • Able to read a wiring diagram.
  • Use a variety of tools effectively, such as transfer provers, pressure and temperature calibrators, analog and digital pressure gauges, multimeters, etc.
  • Understand and comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, company and industry operating standards and safety procedures.
  • Able to use creative abilities and innovative thinking to solve problems with logical solutions, multi-task, make good decisions and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Apply motivation, demonstrate customer focus, and provide solutions to meet our customers' needs.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn continuously, understand business philosophy, and apply technical specifications appropriately.
  • Perform duties according to company policies and procedures.
  • Respond to callouts or work outside of normal scheduled time.
  • Communicate well, demonstrate courtesy, tact, good judgment, and professional conduct during contact with customers, both in person and by telephone.
  • Provide a valid state driver's license and to present and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Able to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Demonstrate a strong aptitude for mechanical tasks, algebra, physics, unit conversion and electronics.
