Job Summary:
Provides nursing care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician/advanced practice provider. Utilizes observational skills to monitor nursing interventions and assists medical staff to ensure optimal care within established policies, procedures, and standards. Performs nursing duties in accordance with the legal scope of practice and organizational standards, demonstrating commitment to the organization's Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan. Maintains professionalism and respect in interactions with coworkers, patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, visitors, providers, and coworkers, demonstrating courtesy, compassion, and respect.
- Provides therapeutic patient care as directed by physicians/advanced practice providers and registered nurses within scope of practice.
- Transcribes physician/advanced practice provider orders following policy.
- Communicates with registered nurses to update and modify care plans; assists in developing nursing care plans.
- Administers specified medications accurately according to provider orders and standing protocols.
- Performs treatments such as urinary catheterizations, IV placements, suctioning, irrigations, and other procedures, adhering to infection control policies.
- Maintains high standards of disinfectant use, including point-of-use and peel packs.
- Performs basic patient care tasks such as measuring vital signs, wound care, specimen collection, and patient education.
- Assists medical staff during examinations and procedures, providing necessary support and equipment.
- Observes and documents patient conditions, reports significant findings, and initiates emergency procedures if needed.
- May start and maintain IV therapy and perform venipuncture with appropriate certifications, reporting issues as necessary.
- Collects and processes specimens per protocols.
- Provides patient education following care plans, reporting learning needs and discharge barriers.
- Ensures cleanliness and safety of work areas and equipment.
- Communicates effectively using verbal and non-verbal methods.
- Performs additional departmental duties as assigned, including workflow and supply management.
- Participates in staff meetings and training programs.
- Supports communication with patients via email, call center, and other messaging systems.
- Performs respiratory therapies and documents all care accurately in health records.
- Assists in discharge coordination and other related duties, including orientation of new staff.
- Acts within license scope and promotes customer service excellence.
- Maintains confidentiality and adheres to legal, ethical, and organizational policies.
- Ensures proficiency in age-specific patient care needs.
