Job Summary:
Provides nursing care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician/advanced practice provider. Utilizes observational skills to monitor nursing interventions and assists medical staff to ensure optimal care within established policies, procedures, and standards. Demonstrates performance aligned with the organization's Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan, and treats coworkers, patients, families, and all healthcare team members with dignity and respect.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Exhibits excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, providers, and coworkers; shows courtesy, compassion, and respect; adheres to department service standards.
- Provides therapeutic patient care as established by physicians, advanced practice providers, and/or registered nurses within scope of practice.
- Transcribes physician/advanced practice provider orders according to policy.
- Communicates with registered nurses to modify the care plan; assists in developing nursing care plans.
- Administers specified medications accurately following provider orders or standing orders within scope of practice.
- Performs treatments such as urinary catheterizations, IV placements, irrigations, suctioning, throat irrigations, enemas, and uses related equipment, adhering to infection control policies.
- Maintains high standards of disinfection and infection prevention.
- Performs patient care functions like vital signs, wound care, patient education, specimen collection, and culture accuracy.
- Assists medical staff with examinations and treatments, providing instrument support, patient support, and restraint as needed.
- Observes and documents patient conditions, identifies significant findings, initiates emergency procedures, and reports to relevant staff promptly.
- May volunteer to start and maintain IV therapy and perform venipuncture with certification, reporting issues to nursing staff.
- Collects and processes specimens per protocols.
- Provides patient education following care plans, reports learning needs and discharge barriers.
- Ensures cleanliness and safety of nursing stations, patient rooms, and equipment.
- Uses effective communication skills.
- Performs additional departmental duties, including back-office workflows and staff participation.
- Supports supply management and accepts orders from physicians and providers.
- Manages patient communication and messages.
- Administers oxygen therapy, suctioning, and sputum induction as ordered.
- Documents care accurately in Health Connect or relevant systems.
- Performs other duties such as orientation and discharge coordination.
- Works within licensed scope and promotes customer service excellence.
- Maintains confidentiality and complies with legal and organizational policies.
- Participates in skills assessments for age-related patient care competencies.
